About the event
Did you know that wood ash — also called "potash" — is high in nutrients and an excellent addition to garden soil? Ashes from fireplaces and wood-burning stoves can be a great source of calcium, potassium, and phosphorus, all of which can increase the soil's fertility and raise its pH. From tomatoes to dahlias to kale and cabbage, our farm will benefit from the waste from your winter fireplace.
On January 21st, from 1 to 4 p.m., we will be accepting donations of pure wood ash at the farm (55 Long Lane in East Hampton). Please make sure that the ash you bring has not been exposed to fuel or fire starter logs with wood preservatives. While you're at the farm, you're invited to enjoy a tour and a cup of hot cocoa. Start collecting your wood ash now and we'll see you on the 21st!
